Construction of Biogas Plants and Biogas Production Units

The objective of the project is to build a biogas plant and biogas production units in Šilagalis, Panevėžys District, on Panevėžio aplinkkelis 22A.

The total eligible costs of the project amount to 5,500,000 EUR, of which 2,475,000 EUR are provided through the Economic Recovery and Resilience Facility (ERRF).

The project implementation period is from June 22, 2023, to December 31, 2025.

In the production territory of UAB "Engerta" in Šilagalis, Panevėžys District, preparatory construction works for the biogas plant will soon begin. Various biologically degradable food and agricultural waste will be used for biogas production. The biogas plant is planned to be built and prepared for operation by the end of November 2024.

After the project is implemented, the purified and transported biogas (biomethane) obtained in the plant will be supplied to Lithuanian transport companies using renewable energy resources (RES), and in the long-term perspective, to all natural gas consumers in Lithuania who have access to the country's gas pipeline network and use biomethane for their own needs.

It is planned that after the investment project is implemented and the biogas production units are installed, the capacity of the new biogas plant will reach up to 500 m3/hour, and the installed biogas capacity will be 4,835 megawatt-hours (MW). The biogas plant will be able to utilize up to 60,000 tons of waste and produce up to 4.4 million cubic meters of biogas per year. It is projected that after implementing this project, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) released into the environment will be reduced by 6363.5 tons of CO2 equivalent per year. This amount could be absorbed by 30,000 to 200,000 trees annually, depending on their species and age.

UAB "Engerta" has applied for a grant under the activity "Increasing the Biogas Gas Production Capacity" as specified in the description by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania "Implementation of Fuel Production Measures from RES and Development of Their Use Infrastructure in the Transport Sector," with a grant amount of 2,475,000 EUR.

The project is implemented as a gas field investment and is funded by the Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan "Naujos Kartos Lietuva" (New Generation Lithuania).
